Children around 2 -3 years normally get the set of 20 primary teeth and manage to learn to spite too. Even if your baby is a late bloomer, you have to wait till he’s 3 years of age. Kids having the full set of teeth should use just a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. However, it is better to supervise kids younger than 6 while brushing, as they tend to swallow toothpaste.

At 6, your child may want to brush on their own. You can give him a turn, as he needs to learn too, but you should cover that up by second time brushing to ensure the cleaning. Most children won’t be able to brush their teeth well on their own till they are about 8 years.

As your child starts getting permanent teeth, a regular cleaning and flossing, along with regular dental check-up are highly recommended.

Toothbrush companies come up with various range of toothbrush designed especially for children. These include brushes with softer bristles that can never hurt your child’s teeth and gums. You can also pick children’s flossers with handles to teach your child how to floss his own teeth.

During this age, old teeth will begin to come loose. Let your child wiggle the tooth until it falls out on its own. This will minimize the pain and bleeding associated with a lost tooth.
